After our baby daughter had a medical emergency, my wife immediately blamed my 9-year-old son

Mia lay in a hospital crib when I entered her room.

A small monitor was attached to her foot. Her cheeks had regained their color, and she held the stuffed rabbit Logan had bought her.

A nurse explained that Mia had coughed up the plastic piece before the ambulance arrived.

However, paramedics had noticed breathing difficulties afterward, so the doctors wanted to monitor her for possible complications.

I gently stroked her hair.

She opened her eyes.

“Dada.”

My emotions nearly overwhelmed me.

“Hey, sweetheart.”

She reached toward me before relaxing against her pillow.

For several minutes, everything else disappeared.

My daughter was breathing comfortably.

She was safe.

Then I pictured Logan sitting alone outside, terrified that his family might send him away.
