PART 2 – I was sorting my husband’s clothes for laundry when a letter fell from his jacket.

Part 2 of a dramatic family inheritance story

I was sorting my husband’s clothes for laundry when a letter fell from his jacket.
It landed faceup beside my feet.
At first, I almost tossed it onto his dresser without reading it. Then I saw the handwriting.
Elegant.
Feminine.
And the first two words stopped me.
Happy anniversary.
I picked it up.
“Happy anniversary, darling. These nine years have been the best of my life. Meet me at Le Jardin on Friday at 7 p.m. Wear red.”
For a few seconds, I simply stared at the card.
Nine years.
My husband, Daniel, and I had been married for twenty-one.
I read it again.
Then again.
There was no name at the bottom.
