FINAL PART – My Father Borrowed $1,000, Then Left Me an Envelope

THE FINAL CHAPTER - Grab Full Story

That night I went home.
Jessica was sitting at the kitchen table.
She didn’t look surprised.
“You know.”
“Yes.”
She nodded.
“Then you know everything.”
“No.”
I sat across from her.
“I know enough to ask you one question.”
She looked at me.
“Did you ever love me?”

Her eyes filled with tears.
For the first time, she looked genuinely broken.
“Yes.”
I didn’t expect that answer.
“Then why?”
“Because I thought I could have both.”
“Both what?”
“You.”
“And the money?”
She nodded.

“My family lost everything because of Victor. My mother spent years hiding. My father destroyed everyone around him. I grew up believing the only way to survive was to take back what belonged to us.”
“By using me?”
“I didn’t know I would love you.”
I looked away.
She continued.
“When I met you, I was supposed to find out where your father kept the documents.”
“Did you?”
“No.”
“Then why stay?”
“Because you were kind.”
Her voice broke.
“You were the first person who ever treated me like I wasn’t a Morales.”
