“Make your kid apologize right now or get out of my house forever!”

PART 3

At 12:43 p.m., Dad called again.

I nearly ignored it.

Then I remembered what he had said that morning.

He wasn’t asking me to fix anything.

He only wanted me to answer.

So I picked up.

“Daniel.”

Rebecca was screaming in the background.

Not crying.

Screaming.

“You need to get over here,” Dad said.

“No.”

“She’s telling the police you had access to my bank information.”

I stood from the couch.

Emily looked over from the dining table, where she was helping Noah with a school project.

“What?”

Dad repeated himself.

A cold feeling settled in my stomach.

“I’ve never had access to your accounts.”

“I know.”

“Do the police know?”

“They want to talk to you.”

That changed everything.
